Got Gigondas?  A wine of the Southern Rhone in France, Gigondas is a complex, wonderful, fruit-filled wine.  This Saturday you have a chance to taste the Domaines Les Pallieres 2006 along with several other wines from around the globe.  One of our illustrious reps will be in the store to offer you samples from 2pm-5pm.  Don't miss it.  And if you need more reason to join us Saturday, here's what Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar says of the Pallieres:

"Medium red. Hugely seductive aromas of red berries, garrigue, rose and incense display room-filling power. Vibrant strawberry and raspberry flavors are finely etched and strikingly sweet, with energetic minerality adding clarity and lift. Remarkably elegant Gigondas with the pure sex appeal to enjoy in its youth but also the balance to repay cellaring. A must purchase for southern Rhone freaks."  92-94 points

Spring is in the air and the April Rave Picks are in stock now.  From White Burgundy to Chilean Red Blend, we have another fantastic array of wines all brand new to the store.  So come on in and find the perfect wine for sipping after a long day of yardwork or hanging out on the soccer/baseball/softball field!

2007 Ramey Pedregal Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

David Ramey is widely acknowledged to be among the wine pioneers whose efforts helped raise the bar for all American winemakers and brought California to the forefront of the international wine world. David’s groundbreaking work with indigenous yeasts and malolactic and barrel fermentation yielded a new California style that was richer, more lush and silky smooth than previously known. As a result, he created a benchmark style now emulated by many.

“Ramey’s sensational 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Petit Verdot. Notions of blueberry pie, charcoal, camphor, blackberry, cassis, and smoky oak are followed by a wine with sizeable tannins as well as structure. The extravagant fruit, richness, and intensity result in a remarkable, young Cabernet Sauvignon from one of Napa-s finest areas, the Oakville Corridor.”  97+ pts, Wine Advocate #186, Dec 2009

in the news

How to Keep an Open Bottle of Wine (yeah, right!)  "...Chilling slows down the chemical reactions; in most cases even freezing a wine is less deleterious than is letting it sit out for days.  As a general rule, when keeping a table wine that is already opened, keep it in as cool a place as you can, and a refrigerator is best for all wines — red, whites, pinks, and even Port. (To consume the wine again days later, simply allow it to regain its proper temperature.)  Also, it’s best to remove all the air from a bottle of wine you plan to consume days later. One way is to fill a bottle of opened wine with marbles until the level allows sealing the wine without much of an air bubble. Screwcapped wine bottles work best here.  Another way is to squirt a shot of an inert gas into a bottle. A product called Private Preserve does the job neatly, displacing the air in the bottle with a gas that doesn’t interfere with the wine when you re-open the bottle.  There are many other systems that work to protect opened wine, but the best idea is to simply consume it the next day while it still retains most of the character you liked right after you opened it."  PressDemocrat.com
